More Demo pix

Its hard to imagine this was my hall bathroom...

and this? this was my kitchen...
They got rid of the island in the middle.
I think it was a good thing we moved out because there is significant amounts of dust in the house and well, to state the obvious, we'd have no kitchen to cook in...

Today I went to the Great Indoor store and found my washer dryer.
I selected the model but the color is TBD.  there's white, and then these two. One is superior in every way.

the sleeping man in my yard and internal demolition (6/28)

I went by the house yesterday to get mail and to see what was going on and found this:
a man, sleeping on lumber on my front yard.

It was the concrete guy sleeping, totally sleeping. In fact, when I walked past on those steps, pretty close by, I said "hello? can I help you?" and the man did not wake up. I had to take a picture.

Onto demolition pix
One man, named Wilbur, is single handed-ly demo-ing my home.

There is a pile of appliances for the Second Chance charity folks to come get but they are being quite unhelpful. I wonder how it is possible for a charity organization that will receive free items to not respond to the simple request of "hey, when will you be coming by..." strange. just strange.

First floor entrance and kitchen demo-Wilbur attacking my first floor after destroying the basement.  Its a bit sad to see the house in this sorry sorry state. I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel at the moment but I can only hang onto the hope that the completed project will make me laugh at my current despair.

On the interior decorating side

This week all cabinets were finalized with the meticulous selection of hardware.
I hope the first thing someone says when they see my house is MY WHAT GREAT PULLS AND DRAWER HANDLES KURI!! hint hint.

I think this is my laundry room...i can't remember at the moment.

I think this is the bar drawer...

i think this is the bar pull, Greg...

The concrete walls are in

June 16, 2011
The back has been totally dug out, the concrete walls are in, and the lumber arrived today.
Here are pix of the work in progress.
(also, as of tonight at 7:30p all boxes with packing paper have been taken to the loading doc by me and the boys and the apartment is officially empty of packing paper!!!)

The guys carry these heavy metal plates where the concrete wall is supposed to go.

They make these 12 inch wide parallel gaps.

Here come the cement trucks (there were two)
after pouring in the concrete in the gaps, the concrete hardens and then, walls! with brick patterns.

Then the guys have to climb out of this humongo hole and carry out the metal plates they used.

There's a big hole in my back yard

Today I checked in on the house to see a big hole in the backyard.
Its big enough to fit a big truck. or a few big trucks, really.
Here are some pictures from different angles so that you get the full effect.

And now for the fun Before and After:
The paper from the packers took up most of the apartment.
Now, the papers fill up 8 of the largest boxes that are about 4ft tall.
My idea is to use Seth's scooter to wheel them down to the loading dock (one by one) which is really far away...

And finally, in case you thought I didn't know how to count because there are only 7 boxes in the photo above, behold, my new coffee table. who knew apartments had no over head lights...?

We pack, we upack

Tuesday the packers came and Wednesday we moved. Half of our stuff to storage and half to the surprisingly spacious 2BR apartment.

The packers packed it all, and the rest went to charity...
Sethy's room, a pile of boxes..."mommy, I really don't like these things, these boxes everywhere..."
My piano is buried under a pile of boxes and packing paper.
The pile is roughly 5 feet high and 24 feet wide and the boys run at it and jump into the packing paper.
It is a game I like to call "seconds away from the ER"

*****************
I think that moving on a day that was 100 degrees (literally) was quite hot and exhausting.  However, it was a smart move to do it on a day when the boys could stay late at school... One of the movers carried three rugs rolled up and on his back at one time while I dragged the smallest of the rugs watching him in awe. Oh yes, i pitched in. because we started at 9:30am. at 1:30pm we were ready to move stuff into the apt. of course my new apartment happens to be the FARTHEST from the elevator...grrr and then we started the storage part of the day at about 4. so by storage time, yes, i was picking up rugs, boxes whatever and helping as well as procuring water and powerade for all the workers -- being 100 degrees outside... Oh and the storage units were also the farthest from the elevator. I must say, moving for me, was hard work. And to think that these guys move people every day. That thought (and the 100 degree heat) made me light headed numerous times throughout the day. I feel like I need some time to heal before the next move...
